Is real magic about cards and trickery or about genuine dramatics? Exploring the world of psychics, morals and lies, Costa Prize winner and stand-up comedian, A L Kennedy, gave a very entertaining introduction to her latest novel ‘The Blue Book’. Inspired by her childhood experience of escapology, the story revolves around two psychics and their aspirations to be truly magical, leading into a world of deception, lies and charlatans. This writer is all consumed by her work, exhaustingly inhabiting her characters. For her, the novel is an intense experience granting access to real human problems that run deeper than idle small talk will allow. A humorous writer with the ability to show people as more than they pretend to be.
