Lin Anderson And Tony Black: Crime And The Fabric Of Edinburgh And Glasgow
As Lin Anderson reads from her latest novel, ‘Picture Her Dead’, the Peppers Theatre is completely silent; as her protagonist gazes at something unspeakable, she shuts the book with a slam that makes the audience gasp. The reaction to Tony Black’s reading is quite different: though just as engrossed, there are a few uncomfortable shifts of weight, a few people looking as though it’s too hot inside the cramped tent; but then he has chosen a detailed description of a murder scene, from new novel ‘Truth Lies Bleeding’. Later, Black,
louche, leans back against the wall between answers, whilst Anderson considers her words carefully before she speaks. Their discussion of ‘tartan noir’ is an interesting look into a complicated genre.
