ED2011 Cabaret Review: Blonnde (Hayley Ramsay)

‘Blonnde’ was a frustrating show. Australian performer Hayley Ramsay took us through an hour of songs and comedy, and while she’s undoubtedly got talent and is an undeniably good singer, the comedy that separated the songs was awful. Consisting mainly of old blonde jokes, and Hayley’s obsession with her weight, it was less funny and more just irritating. She did have some fairly amusing songs though, with ‘I’m Not Pregnant, Just Fat’ being a particular highlight. Add to this some inspired choices of cover versions and there’s definitely the makings of a good show here. She just needs to work on her spoken material, and only attempt physical comedy if she’s sure she can pull it off.
