ED2011 3/5 Reviews ED2011 Children's Shows Reviews
And In The Beginning… (Albert & Friends Instant Circus)
By Katie Cunningham | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011
With a minimal premise and simple staging, this show relies on its acrobatics, and while they’re not of an especially high technical standard, they are enthusiastically performed and entertaining. The opening sequence acts out the big bang, then a tyrannosaurus fight, before the performers switch to playing cavemen, staying that way for the rest of the piece and acting out non-vocal scenarios. It’s very much a clown act; the acrobats spend as much time on the ground, running into each other and fighting as they do climbing poles, jumping ropes on unicycles and dangling off of the trapeze wire. Despite the relative simplicity of the acts, the physical humour is consistently entertaining, all the more so because of the scenic setting.
Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, 22 – 29 August, 1.00pm (1.45pm), free, fpp19.
