ED2011 Children’s Show Review: James Campbell’s Comedy 4 Kids (IMWP)

Stand-up aimed at children seems like a pretty odd concept. However, James Campbell – the daddy of kids’ stand-up – makes it work brilliantly. With all the sophistication of a regular stand-up comedian, Campbell delights his audience with an hour-long set of observational comedy and amusing anecdotes. With an occasionally anarchic sense of humour, he absolutely understands what makes children laugh: a routine about making guinea pigs poo on command goes down particularly well. From beginning to end, the kids in the audience are left helpless with laughter, as Campbell sends them into uncontrollable fits of giggles. There’s plenty to keep the adults entertained as well, and frequently they’re laughing just as hard as the kids. It’s an absolute triumph.

Assembly George Square, 11 – 14 Aug, 2.30pm (3.30pm), £7.00, fpp23.
