On the surface, like a hundred other Fringe children’s shows, this isn’t original: it’s a re-imagining of four fairy tales – ‘Red Riding Hood’, ‘Rapunzel’, ‘Hansel and Gretel’ and ‘Rumpelstiltskin’ in which the three actors each play one of the Brothers Grimm as well as story characters. Where the show distinguishes itself is in the details, the hilarious energy of the performances, the bright, creative set design, and the frantically funny writing. The audience involvement is inspired; from the pre-show gathering of the audience’s stories to the wonderful inclusion of bubbles, which the audience were encouraged to pop. There are even a few adult asides for the parents. This solid piece does everything needed to involve children – highly recommended.
