Sitting for an hour or so listening to someone read from his own published work may sound like a bore, but with David Sedaris behind the podium, one can expect the exact opposite. David Sedaris’ half-chat half-book-reading performance was impeccable. Reading from his past works and diary entries, the author illuminates certain critical issues in life – like why Pimm’s language courses don’t teach you how to say “I’m a middle-aged homosexual” – with flowing wit and charm. No stuffy pedantic, Sedaris also chatted informally with the audience on stage and off, creating a friendly atmosphere. I can only fault this performance in that Sedaris was a bit disorganised, but even with the few mistakes, the evening is highly recommended.
