Andrew Maxwell – The Lights Are On (Brett Vincent for Get Comedy)
By Felicity Martin | Published on Saturday 27 August 2011
As he darts around on stage, this Irishman’s mischievous demeanour doesn’t fail to charm. Andrew Maxwell’s routine is current affairs based right up to the past few days, and we see him rugby tackle the London riots, the Queen’s visit to Belfast, the News of the World scandal and many more. Goldmines for comedians these may be, but Maxwell puts a fresh spin on them. We’re treated to the rarity of gags mixed with astute observations, as he authoritatively commands the vast stage. His timing is impeccable when he relates how he would love to smash up the Ritz … or stay at the Ritz. The lights are on for Andrew Maxwell, and he’s definitely at home.
