Chris Martin: No. Not That One. (Corrie McGuire For Objective Talent)
By Emma Keaveney | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011
Chris Martin is a nice lad. He’s a nice lad who makes jokes about his mum, his dad, his fellow nice-lad friends. He talks about getting drunk and inventing new cocktails, visiting the vet, and other tales from the suburban middle class. Likeable, and with real skill for audience interaction, Martin has developed a nice flow and structure to his routine – as the show goes on, he references earlier punchlines to great effect. We’re kept entertained by his observations, which provoked some enjoyable laugh-out-loud moments. Martin’s material is unlikely to challenge viewpoints or redefine stand-up comedy – hence my use of the word ‘nice’ – but he offers an enjoyable hour of stand-up all the same.
