Timing is everything, they say, and Joe Munrow doesn’t have a good enough grasp of it to keep a room laughing. On paper his jokes would be competent, funny, sometimes clever; in performance, the joke more often than not comes so late we’ve forgotten the set-up entirely. His mimed comedy is uncomfortably dragged out until he finally admits there is no punchline and that he’s really just goofing around. But these are fixable problems. Delivery aside, this show was entertaining and humorous – it keeps a smile on your face, even amidst a silent room. With a lot of practise and testing of different material, Joe could make a very funny comedian one day, as long as the timing’s right.
