TC Baldwin takes up the mic like she’s doing it for the first time and doesn’t quite know how. Her mix of resentment, discomfort and lack of mirth means that the hour feels too static, too scripted, and long set-ups make the audience feel they are attending a seminar instead of a comedy show. The under-populated room warms only for brief moments as lacklustre Baldwin clutches at one-liners. She claims to tackle topics that people don’t want to discuss around the dinner table – a decent premise and daring move which could be successful given a more talented comedian. However, the choice of starting with her father’s suicide is probably not the best way to make a crowd relax.
