ED2011 Comedy Review: The Best Of Clever Peter (Clever Peter)

Programming executives at BBC Radio 4 have commissioned the brightly-coloured jumper-wearing sketch trio Clever Peter to develop a brand new comedy series to be broadcast next year. It wasn’t difficult to notice what caught the ears of these eminences of the airwaves when the troupe returned to Edinburgh for two nights only to revisit the finest moments from their three sell-out shows – namely, wonderful jokes by the bucket load. Their performance was neither ramshackle nor over-rehearsed, with slickly choreographed dance routines during scene changes and wittily improvised asides whenever skits went unexpectedly awry. Lines were fluffed and some scenarios were ‘cleverer’ than others, but the hysterical audience couldn’t have cared less. They were having a tremendous amount of fun regardless.

Pleasance Courtyard, 24 – 25 Aug, times vary, £8.00 – £10.00, fpp n/a.
