Changing – Perceptions (Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society)

By | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011

This year there are disabled actors working with The National Theatre in Scotland, England and Wales. Although this is a massive step towards more inclusive theatre, this open forum was all about further bridging that gap between professional mainstream theatre – acting, writing, directing, and casting – and disabled actors and artists. The panel included writer David Greig, actress Alison Peebles, director Maria Oller, actor Robert Softly Gale, and artistic director of Birds of Paradise Morvern Gregor. These phenomenal people have all either overcome physical or mental disabilities to create incredible art, or fostered those individuals who have. Much emphasis was placed on how much those with disabilities can bring to the imagined world of the stage, and my perceptions were changed in the first ten minutes.

Fringe Central, 22 Aug, 12.00pm (1.30pm) free, fpp181.
