I imagine it’s quite hard for the Catholic Church to compete with the rest of the performers on the Mile. Their act’s been around for years, and the script is, well, apparently infallible. But this wasn’t a mass. Far from it. The hour was broken down into twelve five minute segments, with hymns, songs, story telling, meditation, and silence filling the void of induced solitude. The Priest asked us to get comfortable, to lie down, and I lingered between sleep and consciousness for the hour. That was their intention – to allow you to breathe. Unmistakably Christian in content, they managed to remain open and non-judgemental, and I was quite refreshed and clear-headed. Don’t miss the free smiles, tea, and biscuits.
