She’s The Cultured One! (Rose Drew and Tanya Nightingale)
By Taylor Wallace | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011
There are poems written for performance and poems written for the page. Granted, page poems can be read and performance poems can appear on paper, but Rose Drew and Tanya Nightingale seemed unaware of what they were trying to achieve. Was it a performance or a poetry reading? The poems they read were both intelligent and elegant but, as the only audience member, I’d thought I’d be engaged in conversation. We conversed before the show, yet as soon as they sat down on stage, they spent the hour staring over my head as if there was a packed house. Here is my advice for this duo: never stop writing; if you’re going to perform, use the diverse possibilities of the stage. And please stand up.
Laughing Horse at The Three Sisters, 21 – 28 Aug (not 27), 4.30pm (5.30pm), free, fpp186.
