With entertaining dancing and stunning vocals, the Alternotives are at the top of a cappella. Dressed all in black, with the odd splash of colour in their accessories, this mixed group combine a nice variety, showcasing classics like The Jackson Five’s ‘I Want You Back’, with original covers of 10cc’s ‘I Don’t Like Reggae’. At one point they pass out cards to the audience and offer to sing Destiny’s Child’s ‘Independent Women’ as punk rock, classical or opera. Students at one of the UK’s best universities, they are naturally very talented; however, I would have liked to have seen more original scores instead of merely all covers. With a bit more creative effort, they’d be a five-star act.
