“Everyone just close your eyes and think about seagulls” – Chloe Mathuru’s music lifts us into the air where the clouds drift and birds soar. As she sings traditional folk songs from Scotland, Ireland and Wales, we are reminded of the power of a pure voice – hers is a lilting lullaby that ebbs and flows with the violin that accompanies her. Unfortunately, although her voice is strong, her confidence is not and her explanations between songs are filled with ‘umms’ and ‘ahs’. However, this is not in itself a real fault, but rather something that will be reduced with further performances. Once she gets to grips with these evident stage nerves, her voice will undoubtedly bewitch any audience and move them to tears.
