Mosaico Flamenco (Alba Flamenca)

By | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011

The tension created by a good flamenco band is unsurpassed in the music world, and Andrew Robinson’s group of highly-skilled musicians fill the room and let the notes dance through the air. The rhythm and depth of the music, along with the texture of the vocals, transports this little restaurant in Newington to Spain, complete with enthusiastic hand claps and appreciative cries of “olé!”. The stunning technical ability of the players is only impeded by the set’s organisation; songs never move from a minor key, and odd tunings mean each one is book-ended by clumsy retuning. With new songs and old, home-grown and European talent, the hour is full of passion and power, but perhaps too many pauses.

Alba Flameca, 12 – 28 Aug, 6.00pm (7.00pm), £10.00 – £12.00, fpp212.
