Farce-rom-com is a good musical plot, but nowadays, even if performing an older work, it has to be treated ironically. ‘A Man’s A Man’ had the sour mix of ‘Sex In The City’ sass and the clichés of ‘White Christmas’. Sadly, despite the great singing, performances lacked comic-timing, making characters lack appeal. A few technical issues cropped up – the orchestral music was too loud so we couldn’t hear the vocals, for one, and the scene changes took too long; there was nothing to keep us interested during these moments, and annoyingly, most of these were for irrelevant costume switches rather than the advancement of the plot. It’s a shame, because the singing was already high-standard; with more polished professionalism, this could have been truly enjoyable.
