ED2011 Musicals Review: The Last 5 Years (twoSquared Productions)

This musical, charting the disintegration of a relationship over 5 years, starts at both ends and gradually works towards the middle. If this sounds like a confusing plotline, that’s because it is. Particularly when it is communicated through the medium of song, by people who cannot sing particularly well. The chemistry between these two actors is not sufficient to make me care about whether their relationship succeeds or not, and after an hour I was checking the time constantly to see how much longer I had to wait until the end. Bizarrely, it got a standing ovation – the only explanation is that the audience was packed with the cast’s friends and family.

Paradise In Augustine’s, dates vary, 6.40 pm (8.10 pm), £8.00 – £10.00, fpp227.
