The Last Five Years (Patch Of Blue Theatre)
By Veronika Kallus | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011
“I’ve got a singular impression. Things are moving too fast.” Two parallel lines, two stories, but chronologically moving in different directions of a relationship. Cathy starts now with a most sorrowful song, and then sings her way back through to happier times. Jamie starts five years ago, a freshly in love, all-good-things-in-life-coming-to-him young man, to end up rather sorrowfully. In the middle, the two actors for once meet – at their wedding. In this all-music production, the band and singers do a great job – sadly, some of these efforts are wasted in the unsuitable location. However, as evidenced in the outstandingly well-delivered ‘The Schmuel Song’, both singers have great voices and inject a lot of feeling into the lyrics.
C soco, 5 – 15 Aug, 9.30pm (10.45pm), £7.50 – £11.50, fpp227.
