Eunuchs In My Wardrobe (Remy Blumenfeld And Scamp Theatre)

Silas Carson’s story is a bildungsroman focussing on his bisexuality. From Calcutta to London, then finally Eastbourne, this mix of storytelling and spoken word is intelligent and enlightening. A youth of mixed ethnic identity, with Indian and English parents, Silas discusses the maturation of his sexuality and his discovery of the gender ambiguous “hijra”. Albeit clad in pink hot pants and white halter-neck top, there’s no doubting the bold intellect of this man – he’s not afraid to let his freak flag fly, and although he occasionally over emphasises his learning, he bears a sophisticated stage presence. Given his comments on how good a sari feels on the balls, it’s possibly not for the timid, but for those interested in sexuality and gender, it’s well worth it.
