‘Gaksi, Mago’ IS the Festival Fringe. It is innovative, hilarious, completely surreal, all the while delivering a worthy message. From Korea, Kkachidong take their audience on a round-the-world trip, examining the plight of women in Afghanistan and Central Africa. It sounds heavy; it isn’t. These marvellous performers remain entertaining and sometimes side-splittingly funny without making light of the central issue, which is touchingly portrayed. Largely in Korean with English subtitles ingeniously projected on stage, the performers at times slip into broken English to their own great hilarity, breaking the fourth wall and laughing along with their audience at the craziness of our world. It’s ‘Gulliver’s Travels’ meets ‘The Female Eunuch’ with the cartoon-like styling of a Korean TV game-show. Fabulous.
