Love is painful, but surely not as painful as this. Clichéd, sickly soppy, awkward, and frankly ludicrous, ‘Heartbreak’ is not the tragic love story it sets out to be. Told through a series of tedious monologues and flashbacks, we are taken through the ‘story’, an inevitable passing of a romance, glorifying in a histrionic climax with a murder. The twist is less than predictable, but less said about that bombshell, the better. Desperate and squeaky monologues, almost as unbearable as the dreary music, were delivered upwards and not performed out at all. Dialogue was forced and trivial, making it hard to believe in the romance. In the end, I felt like the guilty one; I just didn’t care.
