Greek myths, Orpheus and the underworld are in many ways far removed from modern culture, yet this production works these elements in an excitingly fresh manner, making it very much a show for the twenty-first century. Twisted and terrifying, the fusion of live acting, wonderfully professional media and sound blend into a gritty concoction of this anything-but-antiquated Greek tale. While there are moments of perfection in the performance, most notably from the actor who plays the overwhelmingly troubled Oliver, on occasions it can be stilted and in need of fine-tuning. If you liked the emotional depth of Schaffer’s ‘Equus’, then delve into this… but, as with Orpheus, it’s only at your peril for what you will see is fearful.
