ED2011 Theatre Review: Radio Deluxembourg (Quattro Gatti Theatre Company)

Jimmy and Cherry, two famous pop star siblings, (and their very intelligent chimpanzee, Boots) have been captured by an evil alien overlord and made to perform “olde timey radio shows” for his listening pleasure. The kooky siblings, and their begrudging manager Captain Leo romp their way through these radio classics with a very impressive and entertaining range of accents and sound effects. The whole cast is full of energy and the retro-feel pictures and videoscapes projected behind the action heighten the bizarre and surreal feeling of the piece. And although the show is undoubtedly weird, its unusual eccentric fun is absolutely endearing. Although not likely to everyone’s cup of tea, it’s perfect if you’re looking for something a little different.

Spotlites at The Merchant’s Hall, Aug 2 – 29, 7.40pm (8.25pm), £8.50 – £9.50, fpp291.
