Imagine Adam and Eve as an old married couple – she talks too much while he just wants to read his newspaper in peace and quiet – only they’ve just been made aware of each other’s existence. Based on work by Mark Twain, it’s an original piece of theatre, with moments of brilliance, but all in all, it revels too frequently in the clichés of traditional gender roles. The actors play their parts well, and if you’re interested in playful theology, or looking for a light show to see with your partner I’d recommend it. But if you want an deep and moving piece of drama that comments on modern society while reflecting on the creation myth, this isn’t it.
