This show has the potential to be great but sadly hasn’t quite reached that level yet. With this mixture of song, dance and dramatic monologue, Liora invites the audience on a journey chronicling her life as a young black middle-class girl in the States. There is no doubting Harvin’s ability as she is clearly a very adept performer; however, the show often feels disjointed and seemed to lack coherence. Moments that should have been deeply poignant were lost, owing to the intermittent 80s soundtrack supporting the piece. However, Liora’s sheer enthusiasm is infectious, and it is clear, as she herself proclaims, that she was born to perform. I sincerely hope the show improves on its Edinburgh run.
