ED2011 Theatre Review: You Wouldn’t Know Him, He Lives In Texas (Look Left Look Right)

Lovers Lizzie and Ryan are separated by one gargantuan problem: an ocean. But nothing gets in the way of true love, especially with the aid of Twitter, Skype and a live international audience. This fresh production – set in two real flats – playfully incorporates technology while flirting with the misconceptions, stereotypes and curiosities of our neighbours across the pond. With much video-interruption and voice-delay, Skype was as annoying as it was advantageous and created several lulls throughout the show. No doubt, the performance was at its best when the audience wondered, ‘Is this real?’ so a word to the wise: leave out the poppers and the conspicuously placed cast pretending to be audience members.

Great King Street (tickets from Underbelly, Cowgate), 6 – 7, 13 – 14, 20 – 21, 27 – 28 Aug, 6.00pm (7.10pm), 8.00pm (9.10pm), £12.50 – £15.00, fpp315.
