ED2012 Cabaret Review: Eccentronic Presents – We Won’t Rock You – Free (Eccentronic)

The show’s title seems to be the only aspect that Eccentronic’s Miss Hypnotique and John Callaghan managed to deliver on in their eerie electronic cabaret which attempts to discover the key components of a mainstream musical. The duo performs a series of electronic mash-ups and manages to kill classic songs such as ‘Let’s Call The Whole Thing Off’ with their strained vocals. Cheesy pre-scripted dialogue between songs and wooden jack-in-a-box dad-dancing will leave you wishing they really had called the whole thing off. Karaoke songs without the chatter might make the show that little bit more bearable. The only positive was that, at the end, they gave free toasties to two lucky audience members.

Laughing Horse @ Espionage, 3-12 Aug, 7.30pm.
