ED2012 Children’s Show Review: Lapin Wants Ice Cream (Le Petit Monde)

Tania and her bunny friend are back at the Fringe, in a different home (the French Institute) and at the beach instead of the breakfast table. Joined by other stars of last year’s show, Escargot and Oiseau, and a new friend, Ver, Tania manages to make broccoli sound much yummier than jus d’orange. Repetition of simple French words is encouraged through song and added sound effects, with Lapin and his friends taking turns on stage. It’s a simple ‘repeat after me’ premise, but very effective – the little ones had no hesitation in joining in with Lapin, and did so quite brilliantly, with a clear grasp of what had been said. A little treat at the end is a sweet touch.

Institut Français d’Ecosse, 3-27 Aug (not 12, 19, 26), 10.00am.
