ED2012 Comedy Review: News Smash (C Presents… with Showdown Productions – Australia)

A non-panel show approach to current affairs comedy, ‘News Smash’, hosted by Australian Xavier Toby, gives four stand-ups the opportunity to do a short topical set, along with an interview with someone from the media. It’s an interesting format, and Toby does a good job of holding it all together, but the show I saw had relatively little to do with the news and was more of a showcase for newer stand-ups, most of whom just made a tenuous link from something recent to their standard set. Not bad in itself, but I didn’t leave feeling like the news had indeed been smashed. The show’s heart is in the right place, but it perhas needs time to develop.

It was rubbish! Xavier tries to get away with being a typical Austrialian whilst confusing comedy with self opinionated trash!
