The Temps (Storytellers’ Club Presents)
By Lisa Clarkson | Published on Friday 24 August 2012
A lovely warm, if deeply insincere, welcome from the stars of Sarah Bennetto’s new comedy hints at a lunchtime special ahead. Bennetto (first day temp) and Celia Pacquola (backstabbing office bitch) are both superb; but ‘The Temps’ is dominated by the boys. Tom Webb’s tiny, drippy CEO (”Help me find the end of the sellotape”) and James Dowdeswell’s cleaner are brilliant. But standing out in too tight, too short trousers is Robin Clyfan’s bastard boss. Dreadfully, wickedly delicious, spitting filth at everyone – but especially the ever-upbeat Ingrid, with a post-party, hungover verbal battering including ”you Primark-wearing bitch”. Devastating. Sharper knives for Celia, practised lines from Alex Edelman, (off day, perhaps) and ‘The Temps’ would edge towards perfection.
Pleasance Courtyard, 1-27 Aug (not 13, 20), 1.00pm.
