ED2012 Comedy Review: The Top Secret Comedy Club (The Top Secret Comedy Club / PBH’s Free Fringe)

By | Published on Friday 31 August 2012

Shows with a rotating line-up are always a gamble, and I guess this day I lost. Host Rory O’Hanlan was personable and chatty, but his standard England vs Scotland vs Ireland routine wasn’t handled with much panache and really wasn’t all that fresh. Next up, Marcus Birdman’s thinly veiled hostility towards an audience who just weren’t warmed up yet sadly detracted from a potentially funny set. Matt Price, on the other hand, was more on the money, with endearingly amusing anecdotes and observations, but he made way for Pete Dobbing who quickly got distracted by his own stories and forgot about making the audience laugh. A definite case of better luck next time.

Whistlebinkies, 5-24 Aug (not 11, 18), 6.30pm.
