Hey, Piano Bar Lady! (Linn Lorkin)
By Ana-Claudia Magaña | Published on Friday 17 August 2012
Want an enjoyable afternoon? Then watch this one-woman musical in a cabaret bar, in which Linn Lorkin uses the piano to tell her story of being a New York City piano bar lady. Her singing is entertaining and Broadway-esque, making even the most well-known of jazz standards sound original, while her attitude is winning and her smile is contagious. The storytelling is intriguing, though the style is a bit cheesy, perhaps designed to suit a family audience. The tale, however, suggests a depressing cliffhanger ending, which seems out of place with the show’s happy tone, as people wonder if there’s more the story. In spite of this, it is difficult not to watch this show without calling out, “Hey, piano bar lady! Sing us another song!”
