ED2012 Theatre Review: Katianna Was Here (Sunrise Theatre / edgeeradica)

ED2012 2/5 Reviews ED2012 Theatre Reviews

Written, directed and produced by Laura Guthrie, this play tells the story of 16 year old Katianna, who is diagnosed with leukodystrophy, a degenerative disorder that deteriorates the body, eventually killing the sufferer. The story explores the impact illness has on Katianna and those around her – an interesting premise with a positive objective to raise awareness of the disorder. Unfortunately, it is an extremely amateur production that is poorly executed. The acting is of a low standard, scenes felt repetitive and overall too long. Altogether, this is a community based production with good intentions, but in comparison to the staggering quality of performance at the fringe, this show could not hold its own.
