ED2012 Theatre Review: Marcel Pursued By The Hounds by Michel Trembly (Brylights)

ED2012 2/5 Reviews ED2012 Theatre Reviews

Originally a French play which draws inspiration from Greek tragedy, ‘Marcel Pursued By The Hounds’ follows a brother and sister as they confront their inner demons under the watchful eyes of three Fates. While this amateur company makes a good attempt to create the tension and drama required for such a serious piece, at times it doesn’t quite manage to achieve it. However, this does seem to be more a flaw in the staging and direction than with the actors themselves. The juxtaposition of the “Fates’ world” and the “real world”, integral to the plot, doesn’t quite work and the actors do their best with a dialogue which often feels unnatural and confusing. With a little reworking, this play had potential.
