Losing the Arts is not just a modern concern: whenever money’s been tight, they’ve been considered an unnecessary luxury. This one man show takes us back to the dying days of a Berlin cabaret club, and to a man who wants to keep it alive. Amongst creative lighting and a simple but effective set, Bremner Duthie introduces his quirky and humorous fellow entertainers. He works hard throughout, with songs and stories of life on and off stage. Unfortunately his singing wasn’t always enjoyable, nor his comic timing. Not yet truly playing to and with the audience, Duthie needs to relax into the performance and drop his breathy acting. A heart-warming and original piece of writing, sadly in need of a higher standard of performance.

Hill Street Theatre, until 25 Aug, 7.00pm.
