Kit Hesketh-Harvey and James McConnel (Kit Hesketh-Harvey and James McConnel)

Kit Hesketh-Harvey and James McConnel certainly are the Fringe’s gift to the ageing population, as they too admitted; yet despite this audience demographic, the subject matter remained flagrantly risqué: Berlusconi, ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ and even Jimmy Savile were amongst the topics unashamedly covered in song. The musical talent of the duo is undeniable and astounding. It’s absolutely astonishing when McConnel, using Liszt’s list of letters and the first name of an audience member, devises an on-the- spot improvisation which was truly beautiful and exemplified his pianistic prowess. With innuendo, satire, and charm, topped off by a good old sing along, these gentlemen enraptured the audience. You cannot fail to be impressed by this performance, no matter what your age.

The Edinburgh Academy, until 25 Aug, times vary.
