Henson Alternative’s Puppet Up! – Uncensored (Assembly and Marshall Cordell)

By | Published on Thursday 22 August 2013

Puppet Up is an intriguing concept. Not only do the audience see the puppets on big screens as they would on television, but no attempt is made to hide the actors and expert puppeteers on stage. Flashbacks to classic Henson work ensures that the show retains an element of charm, despite the uncensored humour. Audience participation is encouraged, and hilarity ensues when the American actors are asked to improvise elements of British culture. Rarely have the Battle of Hastings and Wensleydale cheese caused such laughs. Bringing an audience member on stage to learn the art of puppetry is a clever trick, demonstrating that the art is far more difficult than it looks. A triumph; nothing can be faulted.

Assembly Hall, until 26 Aug (not 12), 9.00pm. 10-11, 17-18, 24-25 Aug, 10.30am.
