Soup (Tomato / PBH’s Free Fringe)

By | Published on Tuesday 27 August 2013

A show in which two men are forced, by a soup can, to put on a last-minute sketch comedy performance is a strange format, but one that worked surprisingly well. The eccentric duo, Thomas Hallen and Matthew Leonard, had a great on-stage rapport as they performed their mix of odd and more accessible sketches, with occasional short songs about social media during the transitions. Some of the jokes went over the heads of the younger crowd, as they were based on dated references, but most were accessible. There were also some sketches that felt like they were building to a punchline which never came, thus seeming unfinished. However, overall this was a soup-er show (sorry) that deserves to be seen.

The Voodoo Rooms, until 24 Aug (not 6, 13, 20), 1.15pm.
