This Arthur’s Seat Gala Belongs To Lionel Richie (Lionel Richie)

By | Published on Tuesday 27 August 2013

There are several untruths in the advertisement of this show: Lionel Richie is not involved in the making of this gala, nor is it on the summit of Arthur’s Seat. Once we realised host Barry Ferns (the Fringe’s Lionel Richie) had a different definition of summit to most, and actually found the show, we were treated to a rather charming spectacle. A huddle of spectators under umbrellas, whipped by wind and rain, watching a musical comedian (Jay Foreman) soak while singing into the Festival’s humblest rig. With brighter weather came the marvellous Patrick Monahan, attempting the world’s smallest crowd-surf over the seated audience. All in all, a brilliant, wonderful gig, a fabulous idea and the Fringe’s best air-conditioned venue. Lovely stuff.

Summit of Arthur’s Seat, 17 Aug, 2.00pm.
