Rik N Mix (Free Festival)
By Clare Dolan | Published on Saturday 31 August 2013
Rik Carranza is a sweet and likeable guy who clearly cares about his audience members, guiding us each to our seats. Beginning the show with some lovely audience banter, he lulls his audience into a false sense of security. First guest, Gregor Wappler, rips this from under us as his dark humour divides the crowd, the uptight thankfully in the minority. Daniel Downie finds himself in a similar situation, but his confidence and dedication to his jokes pushes past the more vocal audience members. Rik closes, with relaxed and funny stories and a few giggle-worthy songs – a highlight was his hilarious comparison of Hitler and Bieber. The Scottish trio had a hard job to do but the constant change of pace Rik N Mix provided kept (almost) everyone entertained.
Laughing Horse @ Espionage, until 25 Aug, 7.45pm.
