Lah Di Dah – The Rise, Demise And Songs Of Jake Thackray (John Watterson)

By | Published on Friday 16 August 2013

He was widely regarded as one of Britain’s favourite songwriters, and this month John Watterson brings the songs of the late Jake Thackray back to life in a remarkable tribute. Assuming the character of Thackray for the entire show, Watterson does full credit to the genius of the musician’s controversial writing while reliving every song and faultlessly mimicking his playing style. Some of the lyrics were difficult to make out, though, and rely on the audience already being Thackray enthusiasts to make the most of the performance. Watterson has a clear love and knowledge of Thackray’s music, however, and that makes the show very special.

New Town Theatre, until 25 Aug (not 7, 8, 11 – 13), 1.45pm.
