The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Mad Hatter Productions)

By | Published on Saturday 24 August 2013

A strong cast with dynamic acting and fantastic singing brought this Broadway musical to life. The show follows the Putnam County Spelling Bee, which several high school students take part in, in hopes of being crowned the winner. However, as the musical unfolds, we are introduced to elements of each child’s personal life and learn of pushy parents and uncaring parents, whilst witnessing some life lessons being learnt. The quality of the singing is high –  Hannah Shayle-Kennedy as Olive Ostrovsky, in particular, delivered beautifully in ‘The I Love You Song’ – and overall, Mad Hatter’s production of this well known musical was of outstanding quality, pulled off with enthusiasm and great humour; it will having you laughing and smiling until the end.

Paradise in Augustine’s, until 26 Aug, 5.55pm.
