ED2013 5/5 Reviews ED2013 Musical Reviews
Facehunters (The Hungry Bitches)
By Samantha Strachan | Published on Thursday 15 August 2013
“Take my fucking picture!”, the Hungry Bitches sing as they take us on an electro-rock journey to East London and the scene of sex, drugs and hipsters. A contemporary twist on Wilde’s ‘Picture of Dorian Gray’, this fierce and edgy new musical has everything: laughs, loves and loss. The title refers to fashion (read: hipster) photographer, Yvan Rodic, also known as the Face Hunter and the cast all look like they’ve stepped out of his shots. Themes of youth, beauty and substance abuse are explored with catchy songs and aggressive choreography, brilliantly ridiculing the hipster scene whilst exhibiting the same look. This raw and poignant musical made me laugh, and embarrassingly cry, but thankfully no one took my picture.
theSpace @ Symposium Hall, until 17 Aug, 9.45pm.
