This Life Chose Me – A Ninja Musical (Katie Wilbert)
By Natalia Equihua | Published on Tuesday 27 August 2013
In this make-believe play we become Ninja University students, with Katie Wilbert as Master Koji. Although the idea sounds ludicrous, it’s quite an entertaining one-hour show, which uses the sentimentality of musicals to parody the violent nature of ninjas. Wilbert’s voice and lyrics are outstandingly witty, yet her strength was in the non-musical scenes. Her improvisation and acting skills had the audience laughing throughout every line. However, she struggled when interacting with her audience and seemed hesitant about making a comedic moment out of their responses. Despite this, her enthusiasm was contagious and the absurdity of the musical became quite believable in the context of the play. After all, who wouldn’t like to be a ninja?
