ED2013 4/5 Reviews ED2013 Dance & Physical Theatre Reviews
Rosemary (Seckford Theatre Company)
By Helena Wadia | Published on Friday 30 August 2013
For a company of young sixth-formers making their debut at the Edinburgh Festival, this performance is surprisingly well done. A physical theatre show that delves deeper into the early life of notorious serial killer Rose West in which the company explores Rose’s influences, both growing up and during the murders. The script is taken almost entirely from interviews and recordings of the Wests, giving the performance a sense of realism, and evoking a great deal of sympathy. The use of Polaroid cameras was superb, as the constant flashing exposed the intrusiveness of the media. Movements were simple, but perfectly precise and despite the odd time-filling scene, the overall performance was brave, exciting and thoroughly engrossing.
theSpace on Niddry St, until 17 Aug, 1.25pm.
