Survival Of The Fittest (MonixArts)
By Jasmine Faller | Published on Wednesday 14 August 2013
‘Survival of the Fittest’ is an energetic and striking work in two parts. In the first they integrate martial arts techniques into their performance in order to portray a struggle between nature and instinct. In the second they revert to a tribal, animalistic state where the conflict is more fluid but no less vicious. Intricate choreography and expressive dancers make for a rather exciting display. They are however, a somewhat visually chaotic dance troupe. Though this is in keeping with the theme of the dances, there are times when they creep into the realms of messiness. Regardless, the occasional accident on stage is quickly forgotten in this fast paced and exhilarating double bill.
Sweet Grassmarket, until 11 Aug, 3.30pm.
