ThaTha (Siyaya Arts and Assembly)

By | Published on Sunday 11 August 2013

‘In times of happiness we dance, and in times of sadness… we dance as well!’ says one of the performers with a smile that electrifies the whole room. And so it begins; an hour filled with energetic tribal dances, singing, djembes and marimbas. After six years away, ‘ThaTha’ returns to the Fringe to demonstrate what makes this festival such an enriching international and cultural experience. The repertoire is a mix of traditional and contemporary African dances related to religion, mining, and harvest; and the result is contagious. Every hip shaking, every chant, every beat of the djembe leaves your heart beating faster, and makes you want to clap harder.

Assembly George Square, until 26 Aug, 4.25pm.
